Prep the Area: Clean the garage door opening area and remove any old or damaged trim. Ensure the surface is free from debris, dust, and loose materials.
Position the Brick Mold: Hold the cut pieces of brick mold against the garage door opening. Align them with the edges of the opening, ensuring they fit snugly. Use a level to ensure they are straight and plumb.
Secure the Trim: Use finishing nails or screws to secure the brick mold to the exterior wall around the garage door opening. Place the fasteners approximately every 12 inches, making sure they penetrate into the framing behind the trim.
Check for Alignment: Double-check the alignment and spacing of the brick mold to ensure it is straight and evenly spaced. Make any adjustments as necessary before proceeding.
Fill Nail Holes: Fill the nail or screw holes with wood filler or putty. Smooth the filler with a putty knife and allow it to dry. Sand the filled areas to achieve a smooth finish.
Prime and Paint: Prime the brick mold with a suitable primer to enhance its durability and adhesion of the paint. Once the primer is dry, apply a coat or two of paint in your desired color, allowing sufficient drying time between coats.
